Many people who are experiencing homelessness own pets that play a significant role in their lives. These much loved pets offer unconditional love, companionship, emotional support and security; basic human needs that are often not being met elsewhere. Although pet ownership greatly enriches the lives of those who are homeless, it can at times come at the forfeiting of personal welfare and significant financial costs.
Pets in the Park aim to support, building relationships with and improve the wellbeing of homeless people living with animal companions by: Reducing the financial burden of pet ownership through access to free monthly pet health clinics and free quarterly de-sexing clinics; providing emotional and educational support to owners with practical help to care for their pets in a social and friendly environment ; and promoting access to human social service support by working in partnership with established providers.
Pets in the Park are a registered charity with DGR (Deductible Gift Recipient) status and not for profit organisation delivering its services without reliance on Government support. The organisation relies on the support of many volunteers including qualified veterinarians, veterinarian nurses, public donations and corporate partners.
