History
Originally bred in China many thousands of years ago the Pug has always been only kept for solely one reason, as a companion, and to this day that is what a Pug requires in life; companionship.
Description
Square and compact in either solid black or Fawn (all shades) with Black mask/ears. Reknown for their large round wrinkled head and twisted tail.
Grooming and Physical Needs
- Grooming Needs: Regular brushing to remove excess coat. In Winter a non- wash conditioner can be used to refresh the coat. Wrinkles and face must be wiped clean daily, their large eyes also benefit from a daily eyedrop to lubricate.
- Coat Type: Short, smooth, soft coat.
- Moulting: All year shedding, heavy in spring.
- Exercise Needs: Require daily walks, preferable on a safe walking harness not a collar. They love to play energetic games. Do not do heavy exercise in the heat.
- Average Life Span: 12 years, If kept fit and regularly exercised, and not allowed to get overweight.
Behaviour
- Family: Suitable for all age types, providing the owners can spend time with them.
- Temperament: Even tempered,intelligent, happy, playful and lively disposition. keen, with a happy-go-lucky attitude. They are sure to keep you laughing.
- Trainability: Very intelligent and trainable dog, they do require regular and consistent training. Pugs are sensitive to the tone of your voice, so harsh punishment is unnecessary.
- Sociability (Other Pets): Are social with other breeds but prefer Pug company.
- Barking: Low tendency.

Love Agility training & learning new tricks it evokes their cheeky intelligence.
Notes
Avoid buying a Pug puppy with small nose and tight nostrils or heavy nose roll many of the causes of poor breathing. Avoid buying a Pug puppy with large bulgy eyes, these eyes are more cause for concern with eye damage/eye ulcers and regular Vet care.
